Academic Experience

2010-2005 Full Professor, English Program Chair Sierra Nevada College. Chaired the BA in English Program: designed curriculum, hired professors, advised English students, hosted lecturers and readers, and other responsibilities. Taught classes in Humanities department.

2005-2002 Associate Professor, English Program Chair Sierra Nevada College. Chaired the BA in English Program: designed curriculum, hired professors, advised English students, hosted lecturers and readers, and other responsibilities. Taught classes in Humanities department.


2002-2001 Associate Professor Sierra Nevada College. Taught classes in Humanities department. Researched and proposed a new major: Bachelor of Arts in English. Advised Humanities students and freshmen.


2000-1996 Assistant Professor Sierra Nevada College. Taught classes in Humanities department. Developed new classes including “Introduction to Literature and Literary Criticism” and senior level “Capstone Course in Literature and Writing.” Advised Humanities students and freshmen.


1995-1987 Adjunct faculty Sierra Nevada College. Taught a variety of writing and literature courses. Developed new courses including “Early British Literature,” “British Literature: Romanticism to Modernism” and “Poetry Workshop.”

2008 Associate Editor for the International Journal of the Humanities,volume five.

2008 Director of the Sierra Nevada College poetry series, arranged readers, speakers and events.


2007 Co-curricular Activities Committee Chair at Sierra Nevada College.


2007-1998 English Lab Coordinator Sierra Nevada College. Developed a writing lab for SNC students to receive assistance in English skills. Created a Web page for online instruction. Developed a tutor-training program for peer tutoring. Supervised lab tutors and scheduled hours for writing lab.


2010-1990 Editor/Faculty Advisor, Sierra Nevada Review. Founded literary journal: The Sierra Nevada College Review in 1990 and continued its annual publication each successive year (now The Sierra Nevada Review). Advised student editors. Taught students editorial procedures. Developed guidelines and publication dates. Listed The Review in national writers’ markets. Acquired ISBN listing.


2005-2002 Faculty Advisor for The Eagle’s Eye, the student newspaper at Sierra Nevada College. Taught journalism, established deadlines, supervised student development of guidelines, editorial policy and practices.


1998-1999 Freelance journalist, wrote restaurant reviews for The North Tahoe/Truckee Weekly.

2001 Intimate Kisses: The Poetry of Sexual Pleasure anthology edited by Wendy Maltz published The Ordinary Day Begins. The book is sold internationally in English and in translations.


2000 smartish pace literary journal published She Waves Goodbye from the Window in the fall/winter issue 2000.


1997 MotherWood selected Late February for publication.


1996 Passionate Hearts: The Poetry of Sexual Love, Wendy Maltz, editor, published Palms. The anthology was on the top ten poetry bestseller list in 1997, reprinted as paperback in 2004, also sold internationally.


1996 The Maverick Press published she said.


1995 Poetry Motel published Stopping by the Car issue #23.


1992 California Quarterly published Still Life With Apples.


1991 Tar River Poetry published In Avon reprinted by permission in Tahoe Country.


1980 The Rebel published The Calling, Lineage and Passage. The Calling won that year’s Rebel Poetry Award.


1980 Birmingham Review published the short story Breaking Away and awarded it third place in their short story competition.

2002 Collaborated with Susan Gold to create an online art site ForgettingOnline.com. Wrote text for images on this site.


2002 October: Hosted poet and former NBA all-star Tom Meschery for a reading at SNC.


2002 Organized Open Mic Poetry Nights at Sierra Nevada College (ongoing through 2006).
